Who we are

WOMEN & YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FOR ADVANCEMENT & HEALTH INITIATIVE is a non-Governmental, non -Profit; non – Political and non – Religious Organization founded in November 2011 and was duly registered with corporate Affairs commission in December 2012. The registration number is CAC/IT/NO 58087 and is WYEAHI's Data Universal Numbering system (DUNS) is 850555374. WYEAHI also has European Aid ID NG-2020-ATK-2707352390. The Organization plays a new and energizing role in bringing Women and Youths who are leaders in many fields into elective and appointive positions to promote Health, Democracy, Peace and good Governance in Nigeria. It is creating new opportunities for Women and Youths to come together and participate in the development of the nation in all ramifications. WYEAHI shall organize Workshop/Training for Women and Youths on Health, Conflict Management, Peaceful Democracy and Economic empowerment among these two key groups. WYEAHI shall work towards providing comprehensive care and support that will bring relief to the families and communities who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other related infectious diseases in a loving and compassionate way and mitigate the scourge of these infection among these two key groups and beyond through result oriented strategies to give hope to the hopeless.

Mission Statement

WHEAHI shall provide comprehensive training and support for Women, Youths and Disable at all levels of Government on Health, Politics and Economic Empowerment. This will enable these two key groups to participate fully in Developmental activities in Nigeria and beyond.

  6. To promote effective conflict resolution through workshop/training on conflict management among women and youth
  7. To solicit for the enactment of the law for the protection of women, Youths and children.

STRATEGIES FOR ACHIEVING OUR OBJECTIVES.

  1. Advocacy and focus group discussions/interactive sessions, inter-personal communication among stakeholders, community leaders, religious groups, and policy makers to ensure participatory programming at all levels.
  2. Design production and distribution of information, education and communication materials/behavioral change and communication materials
  3. Capacity building which include: training, seminars & workshops, (peer group educators training).
  4. Entertainment, which include: drama, role-play music, and video playback.
  5. Research/documentation and resource library on reproductive health, nutritional materials, environmental and personal hygiene.
  6. Establishment of innovative and creative sources of economic and sustainable development.
  7. Establishment of linkages and foster relationship/co-operation among faith based organizations (FBO’s), community based organizations (CBO’s) and Non-Governmental organizations (NGO’s).
  8. To conduct participatory monitoring and evaluation at all level.
  9. Paper presentation during religious convention to women and youth e.g. ZME and FOMWAN among others.
Health Alive Foundation
Health Alive Foundation - TB Care project, Global Found Round R9 Tuberculosis Project in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa state, Nigeria. January 2014 – July 2015.
Third National Fadama Development Project Additional Financing (FADAMA III+AF)
To facilitate the recovery of livelihood for Fadama and non Fadama groups displaced as a result of the violence in six (6) local government areas Madagali, Michika, Mubi, Gombi, Hong, and Fufore LGAs of Adamawa state, in North East Nigeria with the support from World Bank Assisted Project (August 2014 – October 2014).
Church of the Brethren Disaster Ministries, United State, Nigeria Crisis Response (CBDM-US)
WYEAHI with support from CBDM-US have provided Livelihood and Empowerment items to Household IDPs in seven affected local government areas in North Eastern States Nigeria (Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Hong and Gombi LGAs) of Adamawa State and Askira/Uba in Borno State, January 2015 to December, 2016.
Oxfam-Novib
WYEAHI has worked closely with Oxfam-Novib on a project promoting the well-being of women and girls on the move caused by insurgency in the North East. The project promotes Gender based activities within the 10 camps and host communities in Adamawa State with particular emphasis on data collection on Gender Based Violence Information Management System (GBVIMS) with direct linkage to United Nations population fund activities (UNFPA) from July to December, 2015.
Victims Support Fund
With support from VSF, WYEAHI have implemented project titled “strengthening Small Scale Enterprises for Women” in Maiha and Michika Local Government Areas of Adamawa State. September 2016 to August 2017, also implemented the same project in Gombi and Hong Local Government Areas of Adamawa State, from August, 2017 – April 2018 and in Madagali Local Government Area from August 2018 – February, 2019. 500 women in maiha,500 women in michika were empowered with twenty thousand (20,000) naira each, 500 women in Gombi, 500 women in Hong and 1000 women in madagali were empowered with thirty thousand (30,000) naira seed grant each to start immediate petty businesses. (total of three thousand [3000] women were empowered)
Union Bank Nigeria Plc
WYEAHI with support from Union Bank Nigeria Plc Distributed Blankets to Household IDPs in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa state In January, 2017.
Civil Society for the Eradication of Tuberculosis (TB NETWORK)
WYEAHI is implementing a project titled “to Scale up Services for Multi Drug Resistance Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) Prevention and Control in Adamawa state. January to December, 2017, and presently the same project has been renewed and extended from January, 2018 to June, 2019.
Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)

Mennonite Central committee (MCC) supported WYEAHI to implement a project from October 2017 and the project is still ongoing. These include;

  • Trauma healing and awareness tagged "healing and rebuilding our communities (HROC)
  • Livelihood and economic empowerment both for internally displaced women households in Girei LGA of Adamawa State, Nigeria.
  • 1794 women were trained and supported with thirty thousand (30,000) naira each to start up petty (small) businesses for immediate economic income
  • Direct beneficiaries were 794
  • Indirect Beneficiaries were 5174
  • IPAS
    WYEAHI with support from Ipas implemented a project on “Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Unsafe Abortion” for increasing women and girls access to vital reproductive healthcare, providing post abortion care, child spacing, strengthening alliances and partnerships in support of women and girls Reproductive Health Rights in Girei LGA of Adamawa State from July 2018 to March 2019.
    British Council
    WYEAHI in collaboration with Managing Conflict in Nigeria/ British Council implemented a project on Women Peace Building Initiative in Gombi and Michika LGAs of Adamawa State.July 2019 to August 2020. The focus areas of intervention are;
  • Enhancing the capacity of women and girls to be involved in conflict management and peace building
  • Reducing the negative effects of violence
  • Promotion and protection of women and girls Against violence
  • Empowered 200 women, girls, and persons with disabilities with seed grant of thirty thousand (30,000) naira each to run small businesses

  • WYEAHI’s staff strength is currently Twenty four (24) and the Executive Director is the head. Workings with her are qualified and experienced programme administrative and finance staff.     OPERATIONAL DEFINATION OF TARGET POPULATION

    Women:

    refers to all women including child bearing women who are the majority. Where women are mentioned children become very vital.

    Youth

    means young people between the ages of 18 to 35 years. These age grades of young men and women have certain qualities which make them stand out in the population of any given society. They are also more critical in their society than other age groups and are full of vibrant ambition and ideas. The men and women who belong to this youth’s age bracket are primarily responsible for the difficult work. The recognition of the importance of youths to the community is also accompanied by moral responsibility of the elders towards them. Elders usually make sure that youths are properly trained culturally and in the skills necessary for them to fulfill their roles.

    Children and youth

    WYEAHI will join other non-governmental organization (NGO’s) to impact proper life skill education to children and youth in the society. The organization shall fight against women/child trafficking and all forms of child abuse.

    MATERNAL, NEONATAL AND CHILD HEALTH (MNCH)
    WYEAHI shall organize sensitization workshop/training on the important of accessing good health care services which focuses on quality maternal, neonatal and child health and will also work for the improvement of quality and utilization of these services by age bearing women. The important of nutrition, environmental and personal hygiene and also promote the use of treated mosquito net for the prevention of malaria.
    HIV/AIDS PREVENTION
    WYEAHI shall organize workshop/training on prevention of HIV/AIDS, STIs, Tuberculosis, Malaria and other related infectious diseases to target groups. The Organization will advocate for positive Health Dignity Planning (PHDP) among PLHIVs to enable them live a positive life. CARE AND SUPPORT – WYEAHI shall work towards providing comprehensive Care and Support that will bring relief to the families and communities who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and other related infectious diseases in loving and compassionate way and mitigate the scourge of these infections among these two key groups and beyond to give hope to the hopeless. In the following manner: Provision of soft loans to PLHIVs, Provision of Nutritional Materials to OVCs and PLHIVs, Payment of OVCs School Fees, just to mention a few.
    DEMOCRACY
    Women and Youth Empowerment for Advancement & Health Initiative shall organize workshop/training on the mobilization and mass participation for peaceful democracy in Nigeria and the benefits of peace among women and youth towards a free and Democratic society. The mobilization of women and youth towards a free and Democratic society involves the following:
    1. Saying bye to political apathy by full participation to be able to elect good leaders
    2. Saying no to election malpractice
    3. Insisting on free and fair elections
    4. Saying no to manipulations on grounds of ethnic, religious and sectional differences for selfish interest
    5. Refusing to be used as an agent of violence by being Vanguard for peace
    6. Refusing to sell their vote, but use to choose good leaders
    7. Saying no to some unjust Traditions and Practices especially against women participation in Government Affairs
    8. Saying no to corruption and mismanagement of our resources by some leaders, just to mention a few.
    CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
    The Organization shall work toward organizing training/workshops to promote effective conflict management t to these two key groups. Considering in mind, where there is conflict no meaningful development can be achieved.
    ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
    Women and Youth Empowerment for Advancement & Health Initiative shall work toward establishment of innovative and creative sources of economic and sustainable development among these two key groups. By way of conclusion, women and youth will be enlighten to take good care of their health, empowered fully to develop themselves and participate positively in Governance.
